powhattan house

The Powhattan House is a historic Greek Revival house located in Galveston, Texas. The home was built in 1847 and underwent renovations in 1893.

Our concept for this home is inspired by the Greek word, Xenia. Xenia means hospitality. This home has had a long history of welcoming guests into it. It was originally built as a hotel, and later served as an orphanage, a military academy, and a school. Today, the Galveston Garden club currently owns the home and uses it as their meeting space.

For the renovations, the Garden Club wants to continue having their monthly meetings in the space and be able to host cocktail parties. The upstairs of the home will be renovated for a client who would share the home with the garden club once a month. For this design, I have kept the downstairs of the home in the Greek Revival style by adding Greek Revival architectural elements, finishes, and furniture. The upstairs of the home has been modernized for the clients who will in the home, but the architecture of the space will be reminiscent of the Greek Revival Style.
