the beach cottage
BEACH COTTAGE
This project is about designing a beach cottage that is not larger than 850 sq. ft. The beach cottage is to be used as a rental unit in Galveston, Texas. The main requirements were a living and kitchen area, a bathroom, and two bedrooms that could sleep 4-5 people.
This project included work in all of the design phases. We began researching more about the city of Galveston and different Airbnb rental options. We developed our concept of biophilia and began developing bubble diagrams and sketched layouts.
The concept behind our design was biophilia. We created a space for tourists to escape and leave all stress behind. The main step was to create an environment that connects its guests to nature. Our design features natural materials throughout the house such as natural wood, stone, a water feature, and grasscloth wallpaper. With the large amount of windows in the space you get an abundance of sunlight and flows seamlessly from the inside to the outdoors. The design features a rooftop patio for stunning views of Galveston Beach.
